COLOGNE, Germany: The world’s largest showcase for dentistry and dental technology is set to open on 12 March and will run until 16 March. In 170,000 m² of expanded show space, the 38th International Dental Show (IDS) will feature some 2,260 vendors—and the list is growing—from more than 60 countries, including international market leaders in dental medicine, technology, communication and organisation—the professional trade fair will have it all. No other event in the dental industry presents the extensive range of products and services that IDS does.

With more international vendors—this year 70 per cent of exhibitors are expected to come from abroad—at IDS 2019, the full range of advancements in digital dentistry will bring much sophistication and excitement to visitors in an exhibition area that now includes six large halls. The greatest number of international exhibitors are from the US, the UK, the Republic of Korea, China, Italy, France and Switzerland; and companies will be coming from Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Spain, Turkey and elsewhere to participate. The organisers of the event believe this year’s IDS will repeat the record attendance of 2017.

In 2017, there were 2,305 exhibitors from 59 countries, and 72 per cent of the exhibitors were international. This was well over 100 more exhibitors than at the 2015 show, and this trend indicates an increase in the number of exhibitors for 2019 as well. In view of this, Hall 5 will be used this year to keep up with both exhibitor and visitor demand, and it includes a new food court.

In keeping with tradition, opening day will be Trade Dealers’ Day, which is geared towards specialised trade and importers, allowing opportunity for on-site negotiations. According to an independent survey at the 2017 IDS, 45 per cent of visitors from abroad were decisively responsible for procurement decisions for their companies. Of the international exhibitors, 99 per cent established new international contacts and 95 per cent established new contacts with potential German buyers.

At Speakers’ Corner, located in the visitors’ forum, international experts and leading manufacturers will present current developments from the fields of science and research and practice-related lectures, offering valuable insights from every field of dentistry.

Remarking on the 2017 IDS, Dr Peter Engel, president of the German dental association (Bundeszahnärztekammer), stated: “The International Dental Show has once again lived up to its reputation as the world’s leading trade fair for the dental sector.”
