At this year’s IDS, Dutch company GCP Dental is presenting its groundbreaking products to dental dealers and dentists from all over the world. In this interview, Lekhram Changoer, CEO of GCP Dental, gives a short summary of the company’s first three days at the trade fair.

What new products are you showcasing at IDS 2017?
The products we are presenting are based on Glass Carbomer Tech, an innovative patented technology that consists of biocompatible filling materials, sealing materials, and crown and bridge cement. These materials fuse with the enamel and thus there is no need to etch and bond, or to use monomers in order to use the products. Glass Carbomer Tech can be used as an all-in-one product in the cavity and is safe, since it does not contain bisphenol A or monomers. It is the next material for the next century. In addition to our products, we have launched our new brochure at IDS.

What are your main goals for IDS 2017?
At this year’s IDS, we are looking for more distribution channels. On Trade Dealers’ Day on Tuesday, we already received a great deal of interest from distributors in European and North American countries.

What has the feedback from dealers and dentists been so far?
The feedback from dentists has been very positive. Our presentation of our products has shown dentists that, with our biocompatible filling materials, there is indeed an alternative to composites. Composite is—to put it simply—made of plastic. It contains a large amount of monomer and bisphenol A. Thus, the dentists we spoke with liked the idea of working with a safe material, of not needing etching and bonding agents, and that caries is actively remineralised with our products, so that they do not have to drill out the caries from the cavity. Dentists can use the soft removal method instead, removing the soft part and filling the tooth with our material, and owing to the remineralisation process, the caries will vanish. This is a human-friendly and less invasive method.

As for dealers, with us, they have found an opportunity to be exclusive and tell a new story to the dentist, one of a completely new product instead of another composite. They really liked the idea of telling this story. Our products have the benefit of being biocompatible—closer to nature.

Have you already signed a contract with a dealer?

Yes, we have found dealers in Greece, Finland, Bulgaria and Northern America and this is only the third day of IDS. We are pleased to have seen and met dealers who can really tell our story, because they do not have too many products. We are not looking for dealers who have 20,000 products. We are looking for dealers that are small and want to be unique and use this to promote our products to the dental industry. For GCP Dental, IDS has already been a great success.

What are your plans for this year?
We are busy with our application for 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration to enter the North American market. This is actually a major goal for us. We are also going to introduce new packaging. Recently, we completed a study that proves that Glass Carbomer Tech can be used directly on the pulp without causing any pain, because the product is not acidic owing to the minerals it contains, such as apatite, which causes the remineralisation. Thus, our product is absolutely safe for patients. It will be launched this year and is a major breakthrough in restorative dentistry.
