COLOGNE, Germany: The supervisory board of Koelnmesse GmbH has announced that it has terminated the company’s working relationship with its now former chief operating officer (COO) Katharina C. Hamma. A result of differing views regarding the future strategic direction of the company, the decision was reached on 16 November and came into immediate effect.

Hamma was appointed to fill the newly created COO position at Koelnmesse at a shareholders’ meeting held in Cologne in 2011. Prior to this, she had headed the business unit responsible for investment goods trade fairs at Messe München, an exhibition corporation.

Koelnmesse President and CEO Gerald Böse will assume Hamma’s previous responsibilities until further notice, the company announced this past Saturday.

Koelnmesse is responsible for staging the biennial International Dental Show (IDS), the largest and most important dental exhibition in the world. The last iteration of the show, held in March 2017, attracted a record number of visitors to the Koelnmesse fairground in Cologne. Over 155,000 visitors from 157 countries joined 2,305 exhibitors from 59 companies over the event’s five days. The 38th IDS will take place from 12 to 16 March 2019 and is anticipated by the organisers to be even larger than IDS 2017.
