COLOGNE, Germany: The 38th IDS gets underway in Cologne today, and attendees are eager for the most current news and latest technologies to benefit all fields of dentistry. The Ivoclar Vivadent press conference on Monday afternoon, which took place at the scenic Rheinterrassen venue on the river as it has previously, was much influenced by the topics of leadership transition, product innovation and company development.

In a welcome address, Robert Ganley, CEO of Ivoclar Vivadent, greeted over 100 media representatives from 21 countries. After discussing the company’s steady growth since the last IDS, in 2017, he announced that the company is preparing for a future under new leadership: from 1 July 2019, Diego Gabathuler will take over as CEO. Ganley, who has been Ivoclar Vivadent’s CEO for the past 16 years, referred to this as the end of an era and the beginning of another.

“As the recognised leader in aesthetic solutions, our innovations always focus on aesthetics as defined by patients, dentists and technicians. Productivity, performance and aesthetics form the foundation and the goal of all developments. Furthermore, our innovation quality is never compromised, but sometimes the development timeline becomes longer. In 2018, this was the situation, but in the meantime, we developed a new product portfolio for 2019 that is one of our best ever. We will prove this claim over the next several days. We are proud of our position as a leader in innovations and as the leader in quality aesthetic dentistry systems,” Ganley said.

In further news, Chief Marketing Officer Michael Taube introduced new innovations, such as the 3s PowerCure product system for aesthetic posterior restorations, which reduces the risk of application errors and insufficient curing. The single-component adhesive Adhese Universal, the high-performance curing light Bluephase PowerCure, and the sculptable Tetric PowerFill and the flowable Tetric PowerFlow 4 mm composites—all the latest innovations from Ivoclar Vivadent—form part of this product system.

Furthermore, IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime zirconia was presented. At IDS 2017, the company already launched its predecessor (IPS e.max ZirCAD), but has now created an even more aesthetic material, which “is redefining zirconia”. The Gradient Technology is the heart of the new material, combining three innovative processing steps in one product while delivering outstanding accuracy of fit and high-end aesthetics.

Also being launched at IDS 2019 is Ivoclar Vivadent’s latest addition to its digital product portfolio, the PrograPrint 3-D printing system. It complements the PrograMill milling system and has been designed with usability in mind.

After the presentations, the guests of the press conference had the opportunity to see the new products and actually experience them first-hand. A casual get-together rounded off the afternoon and provided the opportunity to ask questions and engage with peers.

IDS visitors who are interested in Ivoclar Vivadent’s extensive product portfolio are invited to the company’s booth (#A020–B029) in Hall 11.3. At the stand, both Ivoclar Vivadent’s long-proven technologies and its new groundbreaking innovations presented at yesterday’s press conference are on display.
